July 25, 2009: Trail Clinic

On July 25th, 2009 a Trail Clinic was held at the Christa Petrillo Training Facility near Winters, CA.. Christa lectured initially about equine behavior and why we see horses responding to things or behaving a particular way on the trail and ways to over come these things.

Christa demonstrated the techniques and then participants and their horses worked on Ground Basics, which included teaching techniques such as "Bridle Work", "the Calm Down Cue", Sacking Out, Desensitization, Steering, Speed and Directional Control, all from the ground.

Next the horses and riders rode in an arena setting initially, applying these techniques from the saddle, going over and through obstacles. After a refreshing lunch the training was done on an actual trail where there were obstacles of every sort to practice control; including going through water. Participants had a fun time as one relates...

“Thank you for a most AWESOME DAY~~~~. Bill and I had a great time, we talked about the day all the way home. You really packed in a lot of activities and the lunch was very nice. Tommy, Tivo & Chance had fun too. When can we do it again?  he he he...  You're the best and we love working with you.”
